BERGHOF SILVERWARE LOOTED BY LOCAL APRIL 1945

Categories
  • Berghof

After the bombing of the Obersalzberg and subsequent death of Hitler in late April 1945, many locals looted the Berghof and nearby Mooslahnerkopf teehaus. While food and other provisions were naturally at the top of their shopping list, many people also took silverware and other furnishings – some of which turn up in households and collections today.

Here are 3 such examples: a fruit knife still bearing the AH monogram, along with a large salad spoon and small fruit knife – both of which have had the AH monogram grounded off.
