Rare spoon from the SS BERGHAUS AT BAYRISCHZELL.
Only a few people today are familiar with the SS mountain retreat at Bayrischzell, between the SS-Junkerschule at Bad Tölz and Hitler’s Berghof on the Obersalzberg outside Berchtesgaden. A superbly crafted alpine building of natural stone and hand finished wood, the SS Berghaus in Bayrischzell sat at 1195 meters (3920 ft) on the Wendelsteiner Alm beneath the mountain of the same name.
The construction of the entrance road and buildings was accomplished by inmates of Dachau concentration camp.
The main building of the complex is now used as a youth hostel. A plaque reminds visitors of the past.
