Dr Gustav Scholten was Eva Braun’s personal physician. After visiting the Obersazberg in the spring of 1944 with his children Gustav, Gertrud and Gerhard, Eva Braun sent him this handwritten card dated May 2 1944, embossed with her cloverleaf monogram.
The card reads: “With the enclosed recordings (photos), to give you a little joy. As soon as my house is back in order, I will make up the promised evening. Your Eva Braun.”
With the card, she sent him a dozen or so photographs of his children during their short vacation.
The shots were taken by Ernst Baumann, a noted photographer at the time.
Just four months later, Scholten would be killed in a car accident driving from the Obersalzberg to his home in Munich. In the car at the time was Herta Schneider (a good friend of Eva Braun’s).
It’s said he was driving an unfamiliar car, because his had been damaged during air raids over Munich.
In many of the photos, you can make out the Berghof in the background.
I’m pretty sure the kids were playing on Martin Bormann’s lawn, which had a swimming pool and large sandpit.
