Extremely rare pass issued to a non-commissioned officer of the Republican National Guard on 24 March 1945 by the German territorial command of Brescia, with the handwritten signature of Erich Priebke. A few years ago five passes were luckily unearthed, all signed in March 1945 by the then SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Erich Priebke in his capacity as SS liaison officer with the Republican National Guard in Brescia. The buyer of two of these contacted Priebke directly to confirm their authenticity. Priebke replied on 1 October 2003 confirming the authenticity of the documents and adding: “Seeing these two passes, I found myself back in Brescia, where I figured as a liaison officer with the GNR commander General Ricci and as commander of a small Department of the German Security Police. ” The pass bears on one side the handwritten signature in copying pencil of the then SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Erich Priebke as local head of the German Security Police in Brescia and the red ink stamp of “Der Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD” ( Commander General of the Police and Security Forces in Italy). The stamp was therefore that of the command of Verona where the SS-Gruppenfuehr und Generalleutnant der Polizei Dr. Wilhelm Harster resided, transferred to Italy on 4 September 1943 as commander of the police and the security service of the “GardaSee” area, after having held the same post in Holland, where he distinguished himself in the deportation of Jews.
Erich Priedke in Italy was sentenced to life imprisonment for having participated in the planning and implementation of the massacre of the Fosse Ardeatine, died in Rome in 2013.
