This knob was removed from one of the radiators below the Berghof’s famous picture window in May 1945. In a letter accompanying the artefact, the GI – named John Burke (unit unknown) – describes searching for a “keepsake”. After taking in the view, his eyes “fell on the radiator” – and the trophy was secured. Attached to the letter are several ornamental floral-like caps from two other knobs, presumably from the same set of four radiators lining that wall.
